Aeon Zen with this album ‘Enigma’ are on their third release.  Mastermind behind Aeon Zen  is multi-talented, multi- instrumental Rich Hinks, whom not only wrote all the songs, but also did the mixing and the production, as well as playing some of the instruments, and to top it of did some of the vocals as well.

On this album they have enlisted the aid of some other vocalists, like Andi Kravljaca (ex Seventh Wonder among other bands), Atle Pettersen (Above Symmetry) and Nate Loosemore (Lots In Thought).  But rather than have each vocalist sing on one ore more songs, Mr. Hinks has had a very clever idea, consisting of having each vocalist sing different parts in the same song, which gives an unusual, yet quite pleasing result.

If you’re into prog-metal, and have never heard of this band before, you must give this a try.  While rooted in the best prog-metal tradition, à la Dream Theater, but you can also hear that this band’s interest are much wider than just the progressive genre.  They bring a fresh sound to the genre if you like me, and are sometimes treading unknown paths.

Highly recommended!.
