CD REVIEW SINISTHRA

SINISTHRA: “Last Of The Stories Of Long Past Glories” ( Arise Records – Bertus)

I didn’t know this band before, but I guess “Last Of The Stories ” is the first full length album (40 minutes) of the Finnish formation Sinisthra. The album is recorded at the Sonic Pump Studio by Markku Mäkinen and Nino Laurenne (e.g. Thy Estean Feast, Amoral, Omnium Gathering and Thunderstone), who took care of the mix and engineering. The album stands for some very Finnish form of melodic and melancholic semi-Gothic Rock with some Doom-influences. Especially those Doom-parts I can appreciate, but overall the album isn’t meant for evil-lusting ears as mine. Nothing for ‘heavy’ souls, but this may please, I guess, those who can appreciate stuff in the vein of for example Finnish colleagues as HIM, Divercia, Embraze, Grayscale or Before The Dawn. Thanks, but no thanks, I guess …

50 (thanks to the opening riffs in “ Coming Up Roses”, “Fucking Fragile” and “Completely Incomplete”) /100
