CD REVIEW DYNAMIC LIGHTS

DYNAMIC LIGHTS: "Shape" (DVS – Rock Inc. - Bertus)

For our portion of high-quality Progressive Rock/ Metal, Dutch quality label DVS now serves us this 1997 formed Italian quintet. And what frontman Matteo Infante, guitarist Marco Poderi, keyboard/ piano player & backing vocalist Giovanni Bedetti, (normal & fretless) bass/ stick/ effects player Raffaele Mariotti and drummer Simone Del Pivo bring to the plate is real fine and fresh dish!Complex rhythms, weird turns and vocal lines, and a combination of heavier passages with moody piano based atmospherics, but at the same time the music gets a grip on you, because of the way they mix old and new style Prog into something quite unheard before. True, it takes a couple of turns of the disc before one starts to get a really good understanding of the complexity of the music, but there's a feeling for melody that is simply appealing. And on top of everything, the vocals do nót unveil the band's nationality! Don't be misled by opening track "In The Hands Of A Siren" though, because that's the song where Jamina Jansson does her vocal contribution (recorded in Sweden, while the rest of the album was done in Italy – wonder how they envisioned that...probably had a demo with an Italian female vocalist, or something like that). No need to tell you I simply lóve this...another one for the 'Best Albums Of 2005' list!
