| VILLEBRAD: “Alla Ar Har Utom Jag” (Transubstans - Record Heaven - Clearspot) |
|
Brothers Erik and Pahl Sundstrom formed the Uppsala, Swedish band Villebradback in late 2004. This outfit draws upon art rock, emo, pop, jazz, new wave and psych for a basically original prog sound, although bands like King Crimson, Landberk, Japan, Ultravoxand Anekdoten are apparent influences. It’s a fairly oddly mix of influences I am sure you’ll agree but it does take a couple of spins to get your head around this. I guess the prog rock tag is the easiest to attach Villebrad to but there’s an underlying new wave element that creeps in from time to time. The time changes and unconventional song structures show a band willing to take risks so early in there career. Impressions of “ Alla Ar Har Utom Jag”will leave prog rock heads bewildered and confused as they try to decide whether to stick with, this the bands’ first album, because this isn’t exactly your run of the mill prog rock.
