Review : CD

“The story of our band goes way back and although Devillac was founded in the summer of 2000, we have a history of playing together for over a decade, such bands as Supercruiser and Fuzzbender probably being the most memorable ones and worth mentioning.

After Daredevil Records released the well-received Devillac vs. Transonic Science split in 2001 we started to work on a bunch of new songs for a full-length album that was recorded but never released as some major line-up changes were made in the band about four years ago. Vesa was replaced by Mick i as the singer and Janne joined us as the second guitarist.
We then started to work on new growly rock n' roll songs that would become the album Three Hours to Coma.” ( taken from myspace )

Although the stoner rock influenced wave, especially the Scandinavian, that has been slacking lately does not particularly interest me, because lack of originality, this Finnish band does show some skill on this CD enough to keep me focussed on, as 10 songs flow reasonably well.. It's not the most varied or demanding style, but these guys rip it up with incredible power and conviction. This is a good CD, if not a great one. Devillac are good enough to get the job done, and there is definitely potential for greatness here, but Three Hours To Coma comes off as too gen eric to really get excited about. If you like bands like Lowrider , Halfway To Gone and Solarized , then you can buy this with no regrets, because you will enjoy it. But then again, if you have any albums by those bands, you could skip Devillac , because there's nothing here you haven't heard.
