Review: CD + DVD

To do something that has never been done before, that’s why Bloodbath was formed. Bloodbath can be considered a super-formation in the largest meaning of this word, and their releases are very well received worldwide. On August 6th 2005, the band performed on the Wacken Open Air festival, at the Wacken Black Stage, before a huge crowd of Metal heads. The line-up is unique, because it is the only live performance ever with Mikael Akerfeldt (from Opeth and Sörgskogen-fame), along Anders Nyström (Bewitched, Diabolical Masquerade, Katatonia), Jonas Renske (Katatonia, October Tide) and Dan Swanö (Infestdead, Altar, Incision, Canopy, Nightingale, Edge Of Sanity, Ribspreader, …), and session drummer Martin Axenrot, also known from Witchery, ex-Satanic Slaughter, Opeth, Nifelheim, Triumphator and Morgue among others. And as from the first second on, when the intro faded away, this quintet brings a live-set unseen before. What an energy, what a skills, what a power and conviction. These five guys play one of their best performances ever, that’s for sure, and the audience is enjoying! Ultra-heavy, pondering and warlike old school Death Metal, filled with anger and glory. And not one single second the band fails. Up to last song Eaten, their most mid-tempo oriented one probably, this performance is one orgiastic pleasure for ears and mind. And neck muscles too, I guess.. The ‘bloody’ atmosphere is excellent and comes with a splendid sound (mixed at the Fascination Street). Both DVD and CD come together and are highly recommended to every fan of extreme old school superiority! There was a carnage on Wacken, and the carnage was called Bloodbath.
