Band: Carnal Lust The band Carnal Lust was formed ten years ago in Paris, France, and started as a trio, performing slightly punky (Death) Metal. At the end of 2002, and after having released two demo tapes which were very well received in their home country, they recorded their debut album, called Whore Of Violence, followed by Rebirth In Hate in 2004. Then it was silent for a while, because of different line-up changes. Yet now the horde returns with their third studio full length, which lasts for forty eight minutes. Dawn Of Hatred, recorded at the Hybreed Studio (7th Nemesis, The Arrs), mainly continues in the vein of the former album(s), yet it is clear that the band has grown a lot! The intense Death Metal varies a lot in tempo, from slow over mid-tempo to extremely fast (including a few machine gun patterns), and every single track varies from each other. Some are more Thrash-based, some melodic, then again skullkrushing, while others are technical in a progressive way. The different breaks, like in opener In The Meandering Deep Of My Anger (666/999), and the pretty unique compositional structures are superb. Unique are the subtle yet wonderful elements throughout the tracks, like the vocal variety, nice acoustic parts, samples and groovy hooks. Dawn Of The Hatred is extremely brutal and brings forth the better misanthropic and anti-human elements from both the Swedish and American old school, yet the modern approach is very trans-European and therefore kind of renewing too. France may never have been our Earth’s number-one country in its ‘popular’ sense when it comes to Death Metal, yet it houses so many excellent bands. And this new star on the deadly firmament shines brighter than so many others! Personally I think this thundering and ponderous album might be the best French Death Metal release from 2008 up till now! Oh yes, Dawn Of The Hatred ends with the The Cure-cover Fascination Street – what a filthy yet marvellous adaptation of this song! 87/100 Ivan Tibos. |
