Band : V/A Hum, what does one have to think about this kind of compilation DVDs? Well, before I let yoù be the judge of that, why don't I first tell you what you can find on the disc, eh? You see, in 2007 German record label (I Used To Fuck) People Like You (In Prison) (fun to just give that label's full name occasionally) organized a full-scale German tour for some of its more successful acts, all pf which bring a fair portion of Rock 'n' Roll in their otherwize Punk Rock based music: (in order of – live – appearance on the disc) The Grit (from the UK), The Peacocks (from Switzerland), Frontlick (as the only German band), Peter Pan Speedrock (Holland), Angel City Outcasts (USA), Chip Hanna (USA and solo, so without his Berlin Trio appendix), and Far From Finished (also USA). Of course, a tour DVD can't be a good tour DVD without some live footage, and that is exactly what you'll get...only possibly not as much as you would like: by The Grit, there's two tracks; The Peacocks get the lion share of live material exposed with no less than 8 tracks featured; due to an oversight Frontkick's 3 songs aren't even mentioned on our promo copy; Peter Pan Speedrock's contribution was, for some reason, split in two sessions, the first recorded at Conne Island and featuring 3 tracks, the second session with two more songs put at the back of the DVD recorded during the band's appearance at Berlin's SO36; Angel City Outcasts only gets three songs; while Chip Hanna only got two songs of his probably completely acoustic set (can't be sure with only 2 songs, right?) put down on the disc; Far From Fisnished eventually, also got three recorded songs featured. In between, you'll get short interview sessions (with at times contradicting statements) with all bands (except Angel City Outcasts) and additional "backstage" footage. Interesting as a reminder for those who actually saw the Rock 'n' Roll festival on the road (or at SO36, where a majority of the (live) footage was filmed. An indication that the DVD is indeed specifically meant for that kind of people comes in the fact that some of the interviews (The Peacocks, Frontkick) were done in German, and not even subtitled on our promo copy. Of course, as the label promises the sound quality on the promo is not the finished version, that little detail may still get addapted on the regular DVD version? All in all, what you get is a rather short total of 1 ¾ hours of footage. So...what dó you think about this kind of compilation DVD? Tony. |
