Band : Aborted Album Title :Strychnine 213 Label : Century Media Distributor : EMI Release Date : 20/06/2008 Review : CD Here is something a bit different to Aborted on Strychnine 213. It's definitely not a change of pace or the sound of a band turning their back on their splatter death metal roots; that much is sure when “ Ophiolatry on a hermoche platter” literally detonates the record in a blaze of Suffocation on angel dust riffing. No, what sets the Strychnine 213 album apart from its five forerunners is a matured sense of dynamics that previously appeared to have no place on a Aborted record. The result is an album that's impactful, ferocious and relentlessly aggressive, but with enough catchy chops and variety to hold the listener's interest past the first four tracks. This is conceived with the mosh pit fans in mind, featuring plenty of nasty bits with which to skank about the floor, while also providing blast beats to cut loose and go ballistic. Everything you've come to know and love about Aborted is still present: from Svencho’salways thunderous vocal delivery, through to the band's almost impossibly tight virtuosity. The difference lies in the execution, and for the first time in their twelve year career, Aborted have managed to capture the same butchery they outflesh on a stage in a recording studio. 86/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
