We Are Our Ghosts isn’t an easy piece to review. It is the first full length, after two mini-releases, recorded again with Max Ludwig (Rogue Studio) in June 2007, and mixed in May 2008 by Jens Bubbes Steffan. The band, consisting of P. Hell (v), M. Kraemer (g), C. Breuer (b, k), M. Rosner (d) and M. Feit (g, k) (all original members, by the way, since the band started at the end of 2000), combines different musical styles: mainly Hardcore, Sludge and Groove, yet also Post-Rock, Half-Thrash, Grunge, Electronics, Trip Hop, Industrial, Prog and Indie. Vocally, there’s a lot of variation, and P. Hell’s voice is nicely adapted to every song, to every instrumental support. Also instrumentally, Llynch combines and performs different approaches of psychedelic music. Some parts are fast, brutal and heavy, others are semi-acoustic, some floating on tranquillity, and a few tripping on acid. The variation is a surplus, the professional craftsmanship too, and even though this might not be your preferred genre (like in my case), it might satisfy you in an open-minded way. Llynch are probably one of the most anti-narrow-minded and unique Hardcore bands at this moment, and their skilled actions, the variation and the addition of unusual elements makes this debut album more than worth listening to. And yes, the powerful, overpowering and sludgy sound is another important surplus! Duration: sixty five (!) minutes.
