Band : The Peacocks Album title : Gimme More (The Best Of The Rest & Leftovers) Label : People Like You Distributor : Sonic Rendezvous Release date : 12/05/2008 Release : Enhanced MCD Say, what gives? It's not even been 9 months ago when this Swiss trio delivered their last full-length baby Touch And Go (review posted 19/08/2007). Oh, right...this ain't really a full-grown kiddo, is it? Nay, the seven songs comprised in this album are apparently "leftovers" from the writing sessions for said record, which happened to be the band's debut album on People Like You . Were the tracks not quite finished at the time the album was recorded, or was their inclusion in the 16-track, 38 ½ minute album considered to render the record a far too long affair? Hey, 23 tracks with a total duration of just over 53 minutes playing time mày be considered by sóme to be somewhat too much of a good thing, but personally, I wouldn't have minded, even though I dó feel more confortable with this shorter offering! When push comes to shove, it might've been the label's consideration for the vinyl release of the recordings which shortened the length of the album? We'll never know (unless someone reveals the facts behind that which is still a secret at present), but as a result we dó now get this very nice gotta-have collectable! From the more up-paced first six songs to the finishing ballad "I'm Not Gonna Tell You" , these are all very fine additions to the collection of any Rock 'n' Roll fan indeed. Not even 15 minutes in length (which has the advantage that you can listen to the tracks 4 times in a row withing the hour), this mini-album has the added advantage of including a promotional video for album track "Gimme More" (as footage goes, it's really a collage of unrelated footage...something which becomes apparent when you look closely enough...but even so, it's nice stuff!). Those still not familiar with this band's music, check out thepeacocks.ch after having read this! 84/100 Tony. |
