Band : Opeth Album Title : Burden Label : Roadrunner Records Distributor : Concreteweb Promotion Office - CNR Release Date : 03/11/2008 Release : CDS With the release of the bands ninth album “Watershed” which less death vocals and more singing from founder and vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt the band began to really show their qualities with more progressive sounds harking back to the glory days of progressive rock but still in Opeth's metal style. The new single “Burden” encapsulates the bands new style with driving keyboards reminiscent of that legendary band Procol Harum. The guitars sounds so beautiful you could be excused for thinking that even David Gilmour of Pink Floyd has joined the band while Mikael Akerfeldt shows on this track that he has a voice to match with the best. Although edited down from the album length of close to eight minutes to a more manageable bite size of four minutes for the single, this song includes all the power and emotion squeezed down into a brilliant sounding song. If there was a progressive rock singles chart this is going to blast into the number one spot without doubt. 85/100 Guido Claes. |
