Sammy Hagar has been in and out of bands more times than memory can recall. Although more famously known for his work with Van Halen from the mid eighties to the mid nineties, Sammy Hagar has led a fairly successful solo career which is currently well over three decades long. At the break of various reunions shows, many honours and other lucrative business deals, he released his latest solo album titled “Cosmic Universal Fashion”. Despite the hope that Sammy Hagar has not lost his penchant for hard slapping tracks during the Van Halen sound in the late eighties, this album proves his love for the pound, but not to a generous extent. The songs are rebellious but more related to a much younger sound. “Time on a roll” and “24365” have some catchy rhythm sections. “Loud” and Hagar’s recreation of the Beastie Boys classic “Fight for your right To Party” adds a more rockabilly feel to the album. On the other hand “Psycho Vertigo” has even Black Sabbath like influences by virtue of its slow grind. But despite the good things Sammy Hagar also brings in a large amount of electronics on this new album. “When the sun don’t shine” and “Switch on the light” are not instantly connectible to Hagar. The highlight of the album is an acoustic live version of one Hagar’s greatest tunes “Dreams”. It brings back great memories of Sammy Hagar’s golden years. This album “Cosmic Universal Fashion” is evidently a mediocre album that doesn’t reach the standard one would expect from a rock and roll legend such as Sammy Hagar.
