Band : Foo Fighters Album Title : Live At The Wembley Stadium Label : RCA Records Distributor : Sony - BMG Release Date : 21/11/2008 Release : DVD This DVD is a marvellous registration of the live gig of the Foo Fighters at the Wembley Stadium on June 2008. After the sad death by suicide of Nirvana's lead singer Kurt Cobain no one ever thought that Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl would have something of his own that’s already very big. The performance in London contains songs from all six of the band's albums and they prove themselves worthy stadium headliners. Dave Grohl's songs are heavily influenced by 'seventies hard rock and those are more well suited to such large venues than Nirvana ever was. The memorable melodies and cranking guitars make for engaging sing along and the band's energetic performances rile the crowd up. The standout moments of the show are a reworked version of "Everlong" and the guest performances of Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones doing their old Led Zeppelin tunes "Rock and Roll" and "Ramble On" with the help of Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins both switching off on vocal and drumming duties. This is a marvellous energetic rock concert that all Foo Fighters and other rock fans shouldn’t miss. There's hardly a flaw to mention in this release both picture wise or sound wise except of the part that this DVD doesn’t have any extras available. But this DVD shows the Foo Fighters with cranking guitars, memorable songs, multi-platinum albums and numerous hits. Dave Grohl is still proving that he was more than just the guy behind the drum kit with Nirvana. A definite must for rock fans everywhere. 90/100 Guido Claes. |
