Review: CD

When Agretator was put to rest, Darkane were formed. We’re 1998. Soon this band became one of the most important names within the Swedish Thrash scene, and throughout the years, Darkane did record and release four ‘popular’ albums, Rusted Angel, Insanity, Expanding Senses and Layers Of Lies. This fifth full length isn’t really something renewing, but it goes perfectly on in the vein of the former albums. The biggest difference, besides the change from Nuclear Blast to Massacre Records, might be the vocal sound of new singer / grunter / screamer Jens Broman, whom you might also know from, for example, Construcdead or The Defaced. Jens has a very varying voice, which perfectly fits to the catchy and groovy tracks. Those tracks still are aggressive, technical and pretty fast, with a nice equilibrium between melody and heaviness. The overall tempo isn’t as fast as before anymore, but this does not mean that the band has gone softer, on the contrary. The complete lack of originality may be minor to the fact that Darkane are one of the top-bands in the Swedish Thrash-scene. Nothing more to add - the fans know what to do.
