Band : Story Of The Year You know, in the old days, when vinyl still ruled the music business, 7-inch singles were sent out as a cheaper means of promotion for a full-length 12-inch album. In those days, you usually got twó songs on one 7-inch (because there was a b-side on such a disc, and it would've been waste to not use that as well), and occasionally what you got on such such a b-side would even be a non-album track. When the CD medium was put on the market, the big business magnats (say major labels) told us the originally high prices were gonna go down as soon as people were gonna buy more CD copies...a promice they never fulfilled, because as you know prices only went up more and more as the years went by...in dire contrast of the fact that the CD medium is incredibly cheap to make! Anyways, the CD medium being so cheap, there's still some decent record labels which will use singles to promote their bands at certain given times. The fact that Story Of The Year is coming to Europe...or actually already IS in Europe on the Taste Of Chaos International Tour (with Atreyu, As I Lay Dying, Horse The Band, and Mucc) right now, is enough reason for them to send out a single with the track "The Antidote" (and the guys recorded a video for it just prior to jumping on this tour) for radio promotion. It's all done on somewhat short notice here in Belgium, because I'm making this rush job on Saturday the 11th of October, and the band(s) will be playing at Antwerp's Hof Ter Lo on Monday. About the track itself: is it a good song?, is it representative for the album (released earlier this year late April, rush-job review by yours truly – because the album was sent out rather late back then too, and the band was about to tour Europe at that time as well – posted 11/05)? Who cares? Does it matter? Those of you who gót themselves the album àre in the know, right? And all what really matters is that you are indeed reminded of the fact that the boys are "back in town", so to speak! If you went out and saw them in Spring, you'll know whether you wanna see them again (along with the 4 other nice bands) or not. If you missed 'em first time around, here's your chance! After Antwerp, the tour's off to the UK, where they'll be untill the end of October. After that, SOTY is off to Singapore and Japan for a couple of shows (check myspace.com/storyoftheyear for details if you need any, because there's none on the band's own storyoftheyear.net). Oh right...no rating, just check the review of the full-length, okay!? Wanna listen to the track? Check out the band's MySpace page! Tony. |
