Sweden’s Badmouth was formed with the aim to write the kind of anthemic songs which made the likes of AC/DC, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Aerosmith and Dokken into the legendary stuff of Hard Rock history!

Lead singer Tom Pearson (backed by lead guitarist Randy Joy, rhythm guitarist Mike Hill, bassist Chris Lemon, and drummer Rick Hard – all working under assumed names, of couse) has the perfect kind of voice to do that: a medium-high pitch with a hoarse quality which has seen him compared to a young Don Dokken. His voice brings a kind of steadiness in each of the songs, whether they have the adrenalized AC/DC punch (with slightly less clean backing vocals, thus bringing a slight difference nevertheless) in “Kick It Up!” or “Dance Little Sister” (to name but a few, the latter with a touch of wah-wah in parts of the guitar work), or go for a balladesque approach in “Rivethead” (acoustic, and with some weird effect on  the drums).

Having been around in the scene for a while, the boys understood but too well that, in order to make their album count, they were gonna have to hire the right people to record and produce it, and for the latter part of the process they stepped up to renowned Melodic Rock producer Paul Sabu, who mixed the 10 tracks in his Californian Fortrocks Studio. To release the album, they then forged an alliance with Indie label Romulus X, who sent us a promo copy a forthnight ago.

To get a taste of the end result, you simply surf to myspace.com/badmouthswe, where you’ll find samples (avarega of 1 minute in length) of all songs on the album. Regretfully, that won’t give you all details...I mean, take a song like “Hell  Tonight”, which starts off at an almost sludging pace. In the second half on the song, you suddenly get a paced-up passage both musically and vocally, showcasing to perfection what a great voice Tom has! Meanwhile, reviews of the album have apparently been pouring in from all over the globe. Check your favourite “local” magazine for a review of the album...if they don’t do it, they don’t know what good music is!
