Band: Hellveto The one-man band Hellveto, the main project of Polish warrior L.O.N. (Blakagir, Winds Of Garden, Sarkel), did already record and release several mini and full length albums before, as well as a few splits. Again, L.O.N. entered the LS Studio for this newest epos, Neoheresy, which lasts for about thirty five minutes (five tracks). Neoheresy brings nothing new, yet on the contrary, the album still exhales the purity of the past. As from opening song Taran, it is clear that this atmospheric Pagan-Black Metal is of an exceptional quality. The whole is enormous interesting, because of the variation (in tempo, in atmosphere, in emotion, in melody), the epic performance, and the medieval underground approach. The keyboards (spherical, not theatrical) (sometimes, by the way, these remind me to Summoning or Finnugor) play an important role, and the same goes for the acoustic parts. Vocally, deep-blackened grunts and harmonious chants interfere, and also somewhat rough, ‘singing’ vocals are used. It is easy to classify this project within the same category as, let’s say, Bathory, Kampfar or Graveland, but there’s another one-man band from Poland that often dwells within my brain: December’s Fire. Of course both projects do play another kind of orchestral Dark Metal, yet the approach, atmosphere and intensity are pretty comparable, I think. Neoheresy is, without any doubt, one of the best Pagan-releases in years – not a recommendation but an obligation! Oh yes, the CD comes with an atmospheric nicely produced yet somewhat predictable (a fearless Slavonic warrior in the woods, snowy landscapes, fire and ice, skulls and crosses, and so on) bonus video track, Taran. 94/100 Ivan Tibos. |
