Band : Flogging Molly Album Title : Float Label : Side One Dummy Records Distribution : Suburban Release date : April 2008 Review : CD “Float” is the fourth studio album from the Irish-American folk punk band Flogging Molly . The seven-piece celtic punk band was formed in 1997 in Los Angeles , California . Flogging Molly provides us a mixture of folk and punk elements, with references to The Pogues. Singer Dave King has Irish roots (he recently moved back from the USA to Ireland ) and once used to be in a very far past the singer of the heavy metal band Fastway. Flogging Molly is often associated with Dropkick Murphys , but Flogging Molly is less punky and more folky , with authentic instruments such as violin, mandolin and accordion that have a great part in the band's sound, just as the typical rock instruments guitar and drums. “Float” , which was recorded in Ireland , sees the light four years after the previous album “Within A Mile Of Home. Flogging Molly is a serious band that likes to express their political opinion and social criticism, but it all remains atmospheric. On a musical scale they provide a variety between up-tempo and slower songs. The album contains 11 tracks (40 minutes playing time), including the following highlights: the opening track “Requiem For A Dying Song” , “You Won't Make A Fool Out Of Me” , “Punch Drunk Grinning Soul” , “Between A Man And A Woman” and “The Story So Far”. Flogging Molly will perform at the AB in Brussels on May 28 th 2008, at the Melkweg in Amsterdam on May 29 th 2008 and at the Pinkpop festival on May 30 th 2008. 80/100 Erik. |
