Band: Through Your Silence Title: Whispers To The Void Label: My Kingdom Music Distribution: Bertus Release date: 07/03/2008 Review: CD The Italian quintet Through Your Silence was formed in 2002 in Milan and initially this formation stood for a combination of European (especially Swedish) melodic Death Metal and American Hardcore / Metalcore / (Death) Metal. After a few important line-up changes, and also the release of a mini-album ( Winter Came , 2005), TYS entered the studio with Marco Bonanomi and Disarmonia Mundi 's Ettore Rigotti (who did sit behind the knobs for bands as Slowmotion Apocalypse , Advent , Stigma among others). This resulted in a more mature and more professional successor of the 2005-mini-album, under the moniker Whispers To The Void , having duration of thirty nine minutes. The Hardcore-oriented elements have completely gone now, yet the Swedish and American influences are still clearly present. The focus lies on fast yet melodic Death Metal in the vein of, let's say, Dark Tranquillity , Soilwork and consorts, with elements from the American Metalcore-scene - think All That Remains and partners in crime. And even though I get some kind of allergic reaction on Italian bands that want to sound more Swedish than Swedish bands themselves, I can accept the effort made by this band. In contradiction to many of their country-colleagues, TYS isn't just a Dark Tranquillity -copycat. This band knows how to combine melody with aggression and still putting an own mark to it. The rhythmic and catchy songs come with a splendid (maybe a little to well-polished?) sound quality and the songs know the necessary tempo-changes. Unfortunately / luckily (that's up to you), the band also uses acoustic parts, (acceptable) female vocals (by a certain Dalia Orsi ) (not that semi-classical stuff), violin and piano. Whispers To The Void will certainly not move me to tears, but it might be (one of) the best Swedish-oriented release(s) from Italy to date. 75/100 Ivan Tibos. |
