Label: Massacre Records
Distribution: Suburban
Release date: September 2008
Review: CD

The Californian band Bleed The Sky’s newest album was recorded with a pretty renewed line-up, since several members left. This sad element, however, seems to end with a very positive result, because Murder The Dance is the best (read: less bad) thing the band did. Production and engineering were done by Fear Factory’s Christian Olde Wolbers, the mix took place at the Spider Studio with Ben Schigel (Chimaera, Misery Signals, Integrity, Drowning Pool etc), and the mastering was done by Matt Rosebery. Bleed The Sky’s Metalcore is very groovy, with industrialised technical riffs and a powerful rhythm section. Vocally, there’s a nice equilibrium between an angry-sounding high-pitched grunt and more than acceptable melodic vocals. This variation in voices is part of the song constructions too. Every song contains both fast and aggressive (Death Metal) parts, and more melodious pieces (sometimes Nu Metal-related). The many breaks and tempo-changes, the technical rhythms, and the well-thought compositions belong to a higher level within the Metalcore-scene, and even though Metalcore certainly isn’t my favourite cup of tea, I can appreciate this release. The album, having a total duration of more than fifty one minutes (the hidden track not included), ends with a hidden track, which starts with a phone message the band received, telling that the band sucks, and that they act immature and unprofessional (what’s the point of adding this???), and continues with a piano-piece (played on Quincy Jones’ piano, by the way, in Beverly Hills).

78/100
