Band: Damn Your Idols When Massif was put to rest, some of the members decided to start a new band with a new sound. This resulted in 2006 in the birth of Damn Your Idols, consisting of singer Gunther Uytterhoeven, bassist Bart De Roeck, drummer Stef Sinhave and guitar player Hans De Bruck. The band however did undergo a very difficult period when the singer’s daughter died last year. This has influenced the writing process, but the result has clearly become a strong, emotions-driven epic. The collaboration with producer Andre Gielen, who did also work with, for example, Enthroned and Channel Zero, were translated in a perfect recording when it comes to compositions and sound. The varied songs float between Rock and Metal, but the whole time the keyword is: groove. For thirty seven minutes, Hard Rock, Groove, Thrash and Doom are melting into a perfectly balanced force. This material goes way further than the 2001 Massif debut Grooveyard because of the professional growth and pretty intelligent compositions. Several times, names as Alice In Chains and, especially, Soundgarden come to mind, and also bands as Floodgate or Channel Zero, even Black Sabbath or Dio, may seem to have been of influence to Damn Your Idols. The many tempo- and melody-changes, including (semi-) acoustic parts, and many tempo-changes, breaks and hooks come in a modern equilibrium with the song structures and a wide audience (Rock / Metal / Metalcore / Groove / Stoner) will hail these idols. Even though this kind of music is not what I’m used listening to, I can appreciate the most part of it. 80/100 Ivan Tibos. |
