Band: Lokurah I don’t think the French Metal scene in general is ‘big’ in its international definition, yet France has some excellent names in each Metal genre. One of the promising bands within the Thrash / Hardcore scene certainly is Lokurah. This quartet, hailing from Paris, combines groovy and powerful riffs with a mid-tempo rhythm and a deadly Hardcore throat. The combination of old school elements with a modern yet rough-polished sound, and the additional Deathcore / Death Metal-influences exhale an evident Hatebreed feeling – and therefore also bands as Machine Head come to mind. A few guitar riffs remind me more to, for example, Slayer at the one hand, and No Return or Gojira at the other, and even though the compositions are performed in a very decent way, the enormous lack of originality might bother some. However, many bands try to sound as both Slayer and Hatebreed nowadays, and not many succeed to do it with a certain level of conviction. Lokurah do it with pride and self-confidence, and that’s clearly audible. A negative remark that needs to be mentioned, unfortunately, is the production / mix. This one isn’t optimum at all, and especially the drums do not sound properly, besides the fact that the bass and guitar riffs sometimes sound too flat. Not the members’ fault, because they really try to do a good job. Total running time: forty minutes. 81/100 Ivan Tibos. |
