Band : Dream Theater Album Title :Greatest Hit Label : Rhino Records Distributor : Warner Bros Records Release Date :02/05/2008 Release : CD Dream Theater exists already 23 years. So this band is now in a position of having a wealth of material to collect a double album with some, more specific 22, of their best prog songs. Their back catalogue is dug up and re-assessed every year. And you can notice that this band takes this album very serious. If you look at the cover, you’ll notice that the letters S, H, I and T in “Greate st Hit” is highlighted in a not-so-subtle red. This album is not Dream Theater ’s style but acceptable just because they’re so against the idea. This double album is full of obvious choices and general fan favourites. It's split up in two sides, the dark more metal side and the light more conventional side. Listening to it is like watching a series of fragmented pictures from their career, limiting Dream Theater to only two sides of their personality. It's the first compilation so far by this prog band because each album is masterpiece on it's own. It's very difficult to compile songs from different albums. The only real hit this band scored was “Pull Me Under”, the first song on this double album from 1992. But for those who've never heard from this band, and that's a shame, it's the perfect introduction to one of the greatest prog bands ever. 85/100 Guido Claes. |
