Band: In Flames Title: The Mirror’s Truth Label: Nuclear Blast Distribution: Nuclear Blast - PIAS Release date: May 2008 Review: promo-MCD To promote the upcoming A Sense Of Purpose-album, this mini-album does give a certain direction to what to expect. What to expect, well, in fact nothing new. In Flames might have been one of the protagonists in the so-called Gothenburg-oriented scene and throughout the years they did evolve into a more melodic Metal/core-approach. The Mirror’s Truth contains four tracks, among which the title track, with is taken from the upcoming album. And I’m somewhat disappointed, because it certainly isn’t the best In Flames-track ever - on the contrary. It clearly goes on in the vein of the later releases, so if you did appreciate this material, the new album will be a recommendation. The three other tracks are ‘exclusive non-album tracks’, and I have to admit they do sound better than the title track. These songs come with more aggression, more conviction and more maturity (meaning: that ‘-core’-approach can’t even please my morning erection, but it will be a splendid soundtrack to celebrate, again, your first pubic hair, I guess) - but wasn’t that somewhat predictable??? Anyway, my opinion is ‘coloured’ (in black, probably), so please ignore my personal truth; yet I guess the current In Flames does have another audience than the early one (f*ck, I must be old in mean time). --/100 Ivan Tibos. |
