Band : Nachtgeschrei Album Title : Hoffnungsschimmer Label : Massacre Records Distributor : Absolut Promotion Release Date :02/05/2008 Release : CD This is the first album by the German medieval metal band Nachtgeschrei. The intro of this first album starts with some bagpipes and then went over into folk metal in combination with melodic rock There is also place for other unusual instrument like accordion. Although this band from Frankfurt sings in their native language, you can feel some real expressions and emotions in their vocals. In between the whistles, thundering drums and general merry making you can here the typical Sisters Of Mercy guitar riffs. “ Windstill” is an example of a accordion driven song. Nachtgeschreibrings music for folk fests just like The Levellers. “ Wütis” is probably the best song on this album and it may be strange but it's an instrumental one. Nachtgeschrei show their strength but I'm not convinced by it. The band combines the familiar and the unfamiliar, with a canny knack for dynamics that should ensure they appeal both to fans of medieval and metal. But they better stick by one kind of music and that should be medieval rock. 73/100 Guido Claes. |
