Band : New Found Glory/International Superheroes Of Hardcore Album Title :Tip Of The Iceberg / Takin’ It Ova Label : Bridge Nine Records Distribution : Suburban Release date : May 2008 Review : CD New Found Glory ’s “Tip Of The Iceberg” and International Superheroes Of Hardcore“ Takin It Ova!” is a two-disc CD set. “Tip Of The Iceberg” is an EP from the American pop punk band New Found Glory (sometimes abbreviated NFG). NFG , based in South Florida, was founded in 1997 and is composed of singer Jordan Pundik, guitar player Chad Gilbert (formerly of metalcore band Shai Hulud), guitar player Steve Klein, bass player Ian Grushka and drummer Cyrus Bolooki. These five guys released several albums on the major label Universal and sold millions of CD’s. Main attractions of the band are Jordan Pundik ’s recognizable croon and the dynamic choruses with great hooks, which are absolutely irresistible. The EP also comes with an extra disc, named ”Takin' It Ova!”, of the band International Superheroes of Hardcore (often abbreviated ISHC), which is New Found Glory but this time with Chad on vocals and Jordan on guitar. ISHC plays New York hardcore with a good sense of humor. “ Takin It Ova!” shows a side of New Found Glory people might not have known. The New Found Glory EP, entitled ”Tip of the Iceberg” , contains both new material and covers of classic hardcore punk songs. We mention the following highlights: the opening track “Tip Of The Iceberg” , “Dig My Own Grave” and the cover versions of Gorilla Biscuits’ “No Reason Why”, Shelter’s “Here We Go Again” and Lifetime’s “Cut The Tension”. From International Superheroes Of Hardcore’s LP “ Takin It Ova!” , we mention the following highlights: “ISHC Theme Song”, “ Screamo Gotta Go” , “Captain Straight Edge”, “ Madball’s Got Our Back”, “Back To The Future”, “Superhero Sellouts”, “Hardcore Hokey Pokey”, “Dirty Mouth” and “ Ebay Revenge”. The two-disc set counts 18 tracks in total, with 28 minutes playing time. Since tour dates in the UK are already scheduled for November 2008, we can only hope that NewFound Glory and International Superheroes Of Hardcore will also play in other European countries... Note: a couple of months ago, New Found Glory released an album full of covers from movie soundtracks “From The Screen To Your Stereo: Part II” through Drive-Thru Records and the best of album “Hits” was released just recently in March 2008 through Geffen Records. And t he band already plans to release their next full length album this summer. 90/100 Erik. |
