Band : The Dresden Dolls Album Title : Night Reconnaissance Label : Roadrunner Records Distributor : CNR Records Release Date : 05/05/2008 Release : CDS The Dresden Dolls are an American musical duo from Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 2001, the group consists of Amanda Palmer, who’s responsible for vocals, piano, harmonica and ukelele, and Brian Viglione, who plays the drums, percussion and guitar. The two describe their style as Brechtian punk cabaret, a phrase invented by Palmer because she was terrified that the press would invent a name that would involve the word gothic. They are part of an underground dark cabaret movement that started gaining momentum in the early 1990s. The Dresden Dolls released their first single from their new album “No, Virginia”. This new and fourth studio album is their follow-up for “Yes, Virginia” and can be described as a collection of b-sides and rarities, along with new recordings of old favorites and cover songs that were previously only available as live versions . It's a collection of odds and ends to tide the fans over. This first song “Night Reconnaissance” is a multipart romp about middleclass vagrants. This first single is not quite as good as all the stuff on “Yes, Virginia”. 65/100 Guido Claes. |
