Band: Tyr Title: Land Label: Napalm Records Distribution: Hard Life Promotion - Bertus Release date: 30/05/2008 Review: CD The Danish warriors from Tyr did record their third full length studio album with the goal to confirm that the two former albums weren’t just convincing lucky shots. Indeed, Land does go on in the vein of Ragnarok and Erik The Red, so if you’re trusted with Tyr’s hymns, you know what to expect - which is nothing new, in fact. After a somewhat Blood Axis-alike intro (???), the quartet brings a heroic and melodic form of heavy and powerful Viking / Folk Metal with influences from Doom and Traditional Metal. Also lyrically, Tyr does not really cross existing borders: the (hi)story of the Vikings (especially on the Faeroe Islands and Norway), yet also the mythic / mythological (hi)story of those tribe’s exploration and their will to conquer / discover. As said, Land does not bring anything new, yet this also means that this album, which lasts for more than an hour, is highly recommended to every fan of melodic Pagan / Folk / Viking material. 77/100 Ivan Tibos. |
