Band : Coronatus Album Title : Porta Obscura Label : Massacre Records Distributor : Suburban Records - Bertus Release Date : 28/11/2008 Release : CD The German symphonic gothic metal band Coronatus has released their second full length album and it’s another journey through different styles. They combine metal, gothic, trash, folk and opera. “Porta Obscura” let us hear two different female vocalists, one soprano named Carmen and one normal Ada. They sing in three different languages: English, German and Latin. The musical style is more symphonic and power metal and less gothic. The riffs are excellent just like the rhythm guitars and the keyboards. The best moments are those where the soprano vocals are supplemented and backed by the clean vocals. “Fallen” is without a doubt the best song on this new album. Folk influences you can hear in “Der Vierte Reiter” and “Beauty In Black” is wonderful ballad. This album definitely shows the diversity and the creativity of this band that leans on his two female vocalists. This means that the guitar work on this thirteen songs sometimes are pushed in the background area with an exception of the songs “Mein Herz” and “Exitus”. Those who likes Leaves Eyes or Nightwish will certainly also like Coronatus. 80/100 Guido Claes. |
