Band : Cheeno Album Title : The Next Step Will Be The Hardest Label : Prevision Music Distributor : Prevision Music Release Date : 05/12/2008 Release : CD Since their foundation Cheeno, a German female fronted progressive band, were dealt as an insider tip. Now this five-piece is breaking in with a monumental first long player with a gigantic playtime of 72 minutes. On their debut album "The Next Step Will Be The Hardest" each song is a potential hit but anyway the band managed to combine them with a musical and lyrical concept to form a whole. The lyrics are dealing with stories which cynically accuse the emotional blunting of humanity with Cheeno as sentimental protagonists at the centre stage. Winning the German rock and pop award 2006 in the category alternative rock was a proof for the convincing originality and live presence of the band. The vocals by Jennie Kloos are warm, tender and heavy especially on songs like “Pacman” and “Floor No.7”. This band already reached the same musical level as their German neighbours Flowing Tears but Cheeno has nothing to do with gothic and more with alternative and progressive rock and in that way they get much closer to a band like The Gathering in days of their “How To Measure A Planet?” album. This debut album promises a lot for more in the near future. 82/100 Guido Claes. |
