Band : My Sleeping Karma Album Title : Satya Label : Elektrohasch Schallplatten - Elektrohasch Distributor : Elektrohasch Release Date : 01/12/2008 Release : CD My Sleeping Karma brings a mix of stoner rock and psychedelic rock. Their album “Satya” is full of tracks referent to Buddhist teachings about the layered nature of reality and the music itself is transcendent of earthly concerns. Instead of psychedelic rock the sound of this band is more meditative than mentalist. My Sleeping Karma’s sound is a rich and swirling ocean of subtle keyboard pads, clean and rounded bass tones and effect-drenched guitars. Melodic riffs, simple and hypnotic, are the key elements of the band. The riffs also are pedalling on an open string to add extra root notes to the drones and thrumming textures. “Satya” is very reminiscent of the mellow parts of Tool’s more recent material. But unlike Tool however this isn’t metal orientated noise. My Sleeping Karma settle down into a groove and just let it spiral on their own atmosphere. On this album you can hear the unnecessary guest vocals from Katrin Weissler. The song “Svaatanya” ends very strange with samples from news coverage of the recent resurgence of conflict in occupied Tibet. “Brahmacharya” is the heaviest song on “Satya” with a Kuyss riff and splashing cymbals. This album is a kind of stoner rock without the booze and bombast. My Sleeping Karma is the ideal band for listening too with closed eyes to lift you off the bad daydreams for a little while. 78/100 Guido Claes. |
