The debut of Solenoid is actually released much too late. This Belgian band from Genk plays a distinguished style of hardrock and heavy metal from the eighties. Sometimes they sounds like a stoner band but more of the time Solenoid tries to make some very heavy noise with bashing riffs. The guitar work of Arend Hamelryk and especially Roel Paulussen is outstanding but the vocals of Frank Homolka and rumparts of Patrick Vanderhenst are real poor. The mix is also outstanding because it’s entrusted to the hands of Chris Tsangarides, the man who made “Conspiracy” of King Diamond. Not all songs are very strong such as “Trashday” but a song like “Angel Spray” on the other hand is more than top. These guys will never be a huge commercial success and there’s an alarming lack of subtlety and good taste but at least they're in it for the right reasons and they will rock right in your face. When you were a huge fan of bands like Spiritual Beggars or you’re still fan of Opeth this debut album is worthwhile to spend all your time on.
