Band: Holy Moses For more than twenty years, Holy Moses belongs to the international top of the Thrash scene. And this newest album, which lasts for almost seventy (!) minutes, will strengthen their position at the world’s top. Sabina Classen (v) and Michael Hankel (g; production) recorded this new album with drummer Atomic Steiff (Stahlträger, Sacred Chao, ex-Assassin, ex-Violent Force, ex-Living Death, session for Sodom, etc), who returned after a short ‘break’, Reckless Tide-member Oliver Jaath (g) and new bass player Thomas Neitsch. At the same time, Agony Of Death goes on where the former albums ended, and the album goes back to the roots. The latter has to do with a certain feeling that also appeared through albums as Finished With The Dogs and The New Machine Of Liechtenstein, meaning that this old school-feeling is of a great importance. …a nice (r)evolution! The first (going further than before) is caused by different elements: stronger and more technical (Bloodbound Of the Damned is a splendid example!) compositions, the exceptional nice equilibrium between the members, and the addition of atmospheric passages between the tracks. Of course Sabina’s vocals need to be mentioned, and I have to admit that she overpowers herself again and again. Her harsh grunts, very varying as usual, are filled with emotions that fit perfectly to the lyrics, dealing with alienation and ‘death’ in a wide definition (inner struggles, suicide, sickness, brain disorders, and loss). Besides the two first albums, I did also like the last ones a lot, but again I need to say that this new recording is at least as strong and convincing as these other ones. Nice job again, Holy Moses! 88/100 Ivan Tibos. |
