Band: Reino Ermitano I don’t think Reino Ermitano, which means ‘hermit kingdom’, is well known in our regions, even though the band released their former album, called Brujas Del Mar, through PsycheDOOMelic (2006). However, I’m pretty sure this third full length studio album will bring the band where they belong: at the top of the international (Traditional) Doom scene. Formed at the end of 2001 in Lima, Peru, the band has grown a lot. More to the point this means that Brujas… was stronger than the nameless debut album (2003) and the same goes for this newest release. Rituales Interiores lasts for almost fifty one minutes and opens with “El Despertar”, a song that immediately shows the main strength of the band: the vocals of Tania Duarte. Stronger than before, Tania has widened her vocal range, and her vocal chords are more varying and have grown a lot. In the vein of the former album(s), Rituales Interiores brings rather catchy Traditional Doom with a deep, organic sound and a groovy approach, combining elements from, let’s say, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Acid King and Solitude Aeternus; even bands as Black Sabbath, Mastodon, Witchcraft, High On Fire and Celtic Frost may have influenced the writing process this time. The compositions are very well-thought and go perfectly well with the poetic Spanish lyrics about inner struggles, loneliness and loss. Conclusion: Peru houses several nice Doom-formations, yet this band may have recorded the best Doom-album ever in their home country! 82/100 Ivan Tibos. |
