Review : CD

Bland Bladen was formed late in 2001 in Malmo, Sweden. After three active years, the band decided to take a pause, a year after recording their debut album I Grevens Tid. While working on new material their debut album from 2003 has now been re-released on Transubstans Records.

If long, hypnotic and intricate celtic/eastern tinged mantras are your thing then Bland Bladen is a must, in the form of 4 nice lengthy tracks on this CD.

The titlenumber slowly creeps up your spine and laps gently at your braincells with a jazzy fusion-like part, then a blistering guitarsolo break burns you up and down and leads into a Hawkwind style space jam before dropping you back to earth. Pungent Effulgent era Ozric Tentacles is the order of the day for "På grön kvist" and "I afton trans" epic slices of psyche rock with traces of the underrated act Ship of Fools in places. Maintaining my annoying habit of mentioning my favourite track on an album I flipped for a while over my choice eventually settling on the final piece "Dimland" a fascinating land where swirling six strings go hand in hand with penetrating four strings and dance aside with freaky keyboards and dartling percussions.

Superb stuff and highly addictive once tried!
