Review : CDEP

This is a debut 4 tracker from Italian band Psychocean and it comes as a prelude to a full length album that'll hopefully see the day in 2009.

At the first notes Tool immediately sprung to mind but moments of Riverside, Deftones’ second album and A Perfect Circle’s Mer De Noms also weave in and out of the album. Granted, some additional layers of guitar when recording would have fattened out the sound and leave it sounding as powerful as it ought to be. Michele’s  riffs are strong, as are his rhythm changes, it's just that doubling them up would add a whole new dimension to their sound. The bass is very low in the mix and doesn't quite punch through like it ought to for a band with a single guitar, but that said Stefano’s playing is solid and extremely tight. Marco’s vocals are an additional strongpoint as they fit in with their sound perfectly, but hopefully he will restrain his singing a little bit, less is more. Although crunchy guitars smash through at times, it just might be too mellow for those of us who prefer the harder, angry more technical sound of Tool. All in all, Embryonal Confinement is a satisfying debut
