Review : CD

A strange beast, this album... Dragonwyck laid the earliest tracks off this album onto tape in 1974. It seems a life of rock'n'roll greatness was not meant to be, and Dragonwyck were overlooked by labels while similar bands such as the Vanilla Fudge, Queen Traffic,… and all enjoyed the fruits of their success. And what a shame it was... and would remain to be, if these recordings were never to have been released.
By fusing bits of glam and prog, wisps of psychedelia, and elements of classic, R&B and soul, the third Dragonwyck album manages to result the ambitious developments of rock music during its most creative era (Genesis, David Bowie, Queen, King Crimson, The Who, …). I am very impressed with the quality of the CD version released by World In Sound and I will go out on a limb here and give some of the credit for this overall production to Bill Cavanaugh.
A great fun set of freakiness from the mid seventies.
