Review : CD

The musicians that participate with Poseidotica get an opportunity to spread their wings and fly on this inventive and engaging project. The outcome is an amazing work of musical art. I admit it, it took more than one listen, actually several, to take this entire recording in for what its worth. There is a lot going on here.

For the kraut, riff , psychedelic and progressive rock fans there is equal amounts of enjoyment on this album like on “La distancia”and “Tiempo y espaciao” . You also have a jazzier Cynic fusion metal workout with “Anfibio”. The musical range is wide and varied and makes this CD a treat to listen to.. There are quiet, haunting and surreal moments that perfectly compliment the loud and powerful side of the music. Guitar players Hernán Miceli and Santiago Rúa really catches the ear, their  inventive guitar work  run the gamut, from blazing to bluesy to spacey but above all breathtaking. Bless the rhythm section of Martín Rodríguez  (bass) and Federico Bramanti (drums) too, they lay down some complicated rhythms and odd time signatures. “Las magnitudes” is the quarter hour tour de force in which these Argentineans bring all these elements together. This long song allow for ample exploration and Poseidotica doesn't waste any time. Racing Subarachnoid Space butts heads with ambient bits and Colour Haze guitar-grooves all interspersed with dashes of maddening dissonance and Ozric-esque snippets. The quartet themselves are superb; their ensemble playing is spot-on.

95/100
