Band: Coerced Into Battle Since Rising Records are able to distribute their material in our countries finally, it means that some great recordings are now available for us too. One of these great recordings is Enemy Mine, done by Coerced Into Battle. This Californian formation was formed in 2005 and the trio did record their debut full length last year at The Blue Room with engineer Eric Hill. For thirty five minutes, Enemy Mine brings hateful and brutal Death Metal with several tempo-changes (the tempo varies from slow over mid-tempo to fast) and with a very groovy approach. Most compositions are pretty well-thought, and the addition of, for example, a few (acoustic) instrumental intermezzos lightens up the heavy, brutal stuff. The whole may find its overwhelming inspiration especially within the American scene (which is pretty evident), yet I’m pretty sure also the Swedish and German scene might have been of influence. I recently read that CIB were considered a Metalcore-band, which I don’t agree with, but I can comprehend why such a statement has been made. The band does not play Metalcore, but some guitar riffs, the well-cared production and a few vocal lines may refer to this genre, I guess. The core, however, remains dark and angry Death Metal in its purest form. I also read about the link with both Thrash Metal and Hardcore, and this data too I have to counter, even though, again, I see where this comes from. Nice debut! 83/100 Ivan Tibos. |
