Band: Baphomet's Throne Title: Spiritual Evil Label: Panzer Truppen Records Distribution: Concreteweb Promotion Release date: March 2008 Review: promo-MCD The horde Baphomet's Throne is sort of a continuation of Oppressor , a cult formation from Poland . This record, called Spiritual Evil , was in fact already released in 2003, yet the re-release isn't but a positive thing. For twenty five minutes, Spiritual Evil stands for a perfect mixture of atmospheric Black Metal and dark Death Metal. The tempo is very varying: from very slow over mid-tempo to up-tempo, and a few times even pretty fast, yet never the whole blasts . The combination of Death and Black Metal is audible in both vocals (grunts and screams) and instruments, yet the overall atmosphere is mainly blackened. One of the most important characteristics for Baphomet's Throne is the use of keyboards, which are very important in this band's music. The synth-driven songs come with keyboards that remind me to, especially, Sinoath , yet also Phlebotomized and early The Gathering may come to mind when it comes to the keyboard-sound. However, the sound quality is not satisfying. I wonder why they didn't re-mix the whole for this re-release. I like the underground-oriented sound a lot, yet in the case of this album, I'm afraid it concerns some lack of experience??? Unfortunately… Anyway, I am looking forward to a new recording of this band, because they do have the potential. Oh yes, excellent outro too! 82/100 Ivan Tibos. |
