Band : Lento Title album : Earthen Record label : Supernatural Cat Distribution : Clearspot Release date : 2008 Review : CD Filled with growling riffs, disturbing atmospheres, this instrumental band from Italy sets a very gloomy tone as their sinister musical creation oozes throughout the speakers. A 5-piece, anchored by Giuseppe Caputo: guitars, Lorenzo Stecconi: guitars and production, Donato Loia: guitars, Emanuele Massa: bass and Federico Colella: drums and live samples. On the tracks “Hadrons”, “Need” and “Earth” these boys lay down a wicked, corroded chugging sound that will have you thinking Yob and Neurosis with a bit of the experimental & cinematic feel of Godspeed You Black Emperor and Moogwai added in. Further in, the music takes on the hue of a Eraserhead soundtrack; psychedelic drones, resonant feedbacks and electronic effects merging into a potent nightmare horror experience and it won't let you go until the dark ambient outro fades into nothingness. This is top quality heavy post sludge core from a label that keeps on releasing great stuff. Add to all this the, once again, outstanding artwork, up to the high Supernatural Cat/ Malleus standards, and the raw, powerful sound quality and you'll understand that this is essential material for fans into the lords of crushdom like Sleep, Isis, Earth, Neurosis, Pelican, Explosions In The Sky,... 90/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
