Review : CD
“Folklore And Superstition” is the second studio album from the American hard rock band Black Stone Cherry.
The band was formed in 2001 in Edmonton, Kentucky and is composed of the following musicians: Chris Robertson (guitar and vocals), Ben Wells (guitar), Jon Lawhon (bass guitar), and John Fred Young (drums).
These four youngsters are able to modernize classic rock and have developed a sound of their own. Since they are from Kentucky, the link with southern rock is regularly present and with their interest in classic rock, Black Stone Cherry are often compared to for instance Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, while the ballads (“Things My Father Said”, “Peace Is Free” and “You”) sometimes make you think of Aerosmith. But personally I don’t consider ballads as a strong point of Black Stone Cherry. They are far better in producing uncompromising southern hard rock with driving riffs, uplifting rhythms and sing-along choruses.
“Folklore And Superstition” was produced by Bob Marlette (known from his productions of for instance Ozzy Ozbourne, Alice Cooper, Saliva, Seether and Shinedown) and contains 13 songs with a playing time 53 minutes.
Highlights are the opening track and first single "Blind Man", “Please Come In”, “Soulcreek”, “The Bitter End”, " Long Sleeves", “The Key” and “Sunrise” (with a surprising reggae vibe).
Black Stone Cherry is doing a European tour in November and December 2008, but unfortunately without any date in Belgium or The Netherlands at the moment.
80/100
