Band : Colussus We welcome another talented metal outfit from Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. On …And The Rift Of The Pan-Dimensional Undergods they crush down 9 heavy tunes that are filled with tremendous guitar solos by three axe undergods Bill Fischer, Nicholas Perros and Andy Lewis. Take your air guitar out of its case and get ready to crank the Colossus-volume. The Priest/Slough Feg riffing boils up in their first anthem “Limit break”. “Salamandastron” kicks into more great Maiden harmony and riffing. The longest cut “Willow” prove that vocalist Sean Buchanan has serious power behind his vocal chops, though next album he has to put more emotion and soul in his performance. “Ghostfucker” power metal stylings alternate between Holocaust, Lizzy Borden and Loudness. Heavily overloaded sweeping rhythms; fantastic, scorching guitar work relying on fast paced, yet imaginative enough drumming; “Bubba zanetti” has it all. The mid-tempo heavy weighters “One was man” and “Colossus” are highlighted by great melodious solos and thunderous drumming, a devastating combination of power and talented song writing. Another strength of Colussus is a strong rhythm-section by Benjamin Smith (d) and Rylan Wilshire-Eshelman (b) that keeps things pounding while aggressive guitars crush down the landscape..The music is deeply rooted in a 70/80s metal groove and it shines through songs of every size, shape and speed. In summary, one of the more impressive heavy metal bands I’ve heard recently. Anyone into good heavy metal CANNOT afford to pass on this kick ass recording!! 88/100 Cosmicmasseur |
