Band : Nickelback Album Title : Gotta Be Somebody Label : Roadrunner Records Distributor : CNR – Concreteweb Promotion Release Date : 31/10/2008 Release : CD single Nickelback is a great band that normally sticks with the formula to produce some great melodic hard rock songs and albums. After selling around seven million copies this band has a clear way to create songs that hits the charts nearly every year. Nickelback took veteran producer Robert John Lange to punch up their sound and to puzzle on their trademarks. Robert John Lange did before acts ranging from Def Leppard to Shania Twain and his big arena sound is a good match for Nickelback. "Gotta Be Somebody" kicks off with synthesizer and ambient vocals instead of simply guitar rock sound. This gives a whole other effect. Nickelback gets a more dynamic range. The result is good and it makes the chorus even catchier as a simply sing a long. And so you get a Nickelback song that doesn't sound exactly like other Nickelback songs. The major drawback of the band is that so many of their songs ultimately are forgettable. The lyrics here are blandly reassuring that you don't have to experience loneliness forever. "Gotta Be Somebody" will please the fans but just as all Nickelback songs you will forget the song soon after it fades from the charts. 70/100 Guido Claes. |
