Band: The Dillinger Escape Plan Under The Running Board isn’t a new The Dillinger Escape Plan-album, but a collection of older and previously unreleased material. The compilation starts with three tracks that were originally recorded at the very end of 1997. This EP was called Under The Running Board, which also explains this compilation’s title. And indeed, as from the early years on, this New Jersey-based band breaths the purest sulphuric madness. Their ultra-speed cyber-grinding Mathcore has no limits, no boundaries, and the injection of Noise, Jazz, Funk and Grindcore exceeds all human imagination. The intelligent, precisely composed tracks witness a maturity unequalled. A must for the fans to have this rare EP available now. The major part of the compilation is the live registration of the tour they did with The Misfits in October 2000. Some of the tracks were released before on a 7”EP, called Cursed, Unshaven and Misbehavin’: Live Infinity. The sound quality is all right, and the performance sublime. What these guys can do, live on stage, is incredible. Every detail on these heavy pearls is performed with the most precise finesse, and the cohesion within the band is enormous. Under The Running Board ends with a remarkable cover. TDEP did play ‘strange’ cover tracks before, among which material from Guns ‘n Roses, The Melvins, Billy Idol, Soundgarden and Black Flag. This time they play tribute, their own kind of tribute, of course, to Black Sabbath with Paranoid. And the band shows its own face again with a pretty ingenious performance. These forty one minutes are highly recommendable to fans of neurotic elegance. --/100 Ivan Tibos. |
