Band : Conifer Atmospheric, conifer hazed, Crown Fire is a post rock behemoth. Difficult and challenging, mind-blowing and weird to the point where it’s tough to make it through the entire program in one sitting. The track “Song for krom” is the longest on the album and while starting out slowly enough, it does build up nicely with a solid chugging guitar 'til it hits its crescendo and the drumming becomes rather frantic, as does everything else. There’s something baffling going on in “Crown fire”. The band’s free experimentation and the spoken word cacaphonic yelps, moans and screams by Oxbow underwear patient Eugene Robinson really actually show images of faces of mutant twins connected via a reptilian maze of God knows what,. I have to say that this is an unusual album and one that became more accessible on each listening. If you are seeking another instrumental band in the vein of Subarachnoid Space, Pelican, Grails, Enablers, F/I, The Vocokesh,…Conifer triumphantly answers the request. 91/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
