This is a very unusual band from Belgium that will bring a strange combination of influences from likes The Bronx, Cro-Mags and Danzig. They also have a rare name Jerusalem The Black. You can describe their kind of music as hardcore with a very dark atmosphere. Not only their music but also their lyrics capture that feeling of depressive vibes. They deal with very dark subjects and most of them contain biblical stories just like the bands name suggests. The intensity of the atmosphere reminds very much of the music and lyrics of Life of Agony and especially in the song “Pale”. The vocals in some of the tracks remind me a lot of John Joseph of Cro-Mags. But despite their excellent resemblances Jerusalem The Black doesn’t have their own sound at the moment. But that’s no excuse for bringing nice music that really rocks. And it’s also nice to have a Belgian band that could develop in that kind of musical direction. “High On Fire” is an extremely strong track on their first album. It’s just waiting what the future will bring for these boys from Dendermonde.
