After releasing their latest brilliant album “WatershedOpeth also released the first single from this album “Porcelain Heart”. It’s one of the best songs on the album and is companied with fine artwork. As usual
Mikael Akerfeldt had written and composed everything on the new album with exception of this masterpiece  where he tolerated some thoughts and ideas from the new guitar player Fredrik Akesson, the ex-Arch Enemy guy. The band sounds sometimes more atmospheric and experimental than ever and is less focused on riffs. For instance on the other song on this single CD “The Lotus Eater”. It contains funky synthesizer music with the sound of progressive rock bands from the seventies. A plaintive melody went over into a typical Opeth sound and ends in a peculiar organ melody before dissolving into a murmur of multiple voices and eerie screeching. This single is very representative for whole the new album with many compositions include acoustic guitars and strong dynamic shifts, as well as growling and clean vocals.

80/100
