Band : Rick Springfield Album Title : Venus in Overdrive Label : Angelmilk Records Distributor : Rough Trade Release Date : 01/09/2008 Release : CD Rick Springfield is best known for his great chart song “Jessie’s Girl” from 1981. This Australian singer has a career that endured already full 40 years in an industry that blows hot and cold for his brand of mainstream power rock and pop. Following a 2005 covers album and a 2007 set of Christmas standards, the real new album "Venus in Overdrive" demonstrates the strengths that keep Rick Springfield alive and kicking in this music scene. He brings a broad stylistic range in his songs with pure emotional energy. The first single from this new album is called "What's Victoria's Secret?" and is nearly a copy of his popular song "Jessie's Girl". But the whole album brings quite a range of genres like modern rock, reggae and pop. The best song on the album is the very intense and surprisingly "Warning Shots" with a little bit influence of Trent Reznor. But you can also hear more soul rock songs like "She" with a little touch of The Beatles. Rick Springfield keeps everyone happy with more commercial radio tuned songs and less commercial catchy songs. 75/100 Guido Claes. |
